Pike High athletes, coaches honored after record-breaking winter season

The MSD Pike Township board paused its business agenda to recognize a string of winter-sports accomplishments across Pike High School and district middle schools. Co-athletic director Kendra Champion Macklin and head coach Charles Grace led presentations that highlighted state qualifiers, all-MIC and all-county selections, and multiple school records.

"It was an exceptional, record-breaking winter and it's because of these kids," said Macklin as she introduced coaches and student honorees. Coach Charles Grace described the swim team's season as historic: the girls' relays placed in the top 16 at the Indiana state meet and several individuals earned all-state honors; the boys team placed 13th in the state, the highest team finish in school history for boys swimming.

The board recognized players across sports: girls tennis (noted as 4–0), girls and boys basketball standouts including sectional champions and all-county honorees (e.g., Isaiah Hill named Marion County player of the year), girls wrestling sectional and MIC champions (Cynthia LaRose, Alyssa Vega, Victoria Flores), boys wrestling MIC champions at middle-school levels and regional qualifiers at the high-school level, and swimmers who broke long-standing school records and achieved podium finishes at state.

Presenters emphasized both athletic achievement and retention of local talent, with one board member asking parents to help "keep our talent in Pike" rather than be recruited elsewhere. The recognitions were ceremonial; no policy or budget decisions were made during the presentations.

The athletics recognitions concluded before the board returned to its agenda items.
