Pike Township highlights student honors, announces $10,500 anonymous scholarship gift

Mrs. Sarah Dorsey, presenting the board's "Spotlight on Pike," used the April meeting to showcase recent student honors and community donations that support schools and families across the township. "We had an anonymous donation of $10,500 to fund scholarships for exceptional learners. We are extremely extremely GRATEFUL FOR THAT," she said.

Dorsey announced that Harvey Salcedo received the 2026 Indianapolis Municipal Band Scholarship of $2,000 and that third-grade teacher Regina Neal was presented with a National Teacher Appreciation award and a $500 gift card. She also reminded voters that Marion County satellite voting begins Saturday, April 25 and runs through Sunday, May 3 at locations including the Pike Library branch.

The board acknowledged multiple community donations listed on the meeting agenda: the Pike Township Educational Foundation donated $10,000 to support Teacher Appreciation Celebration activities; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority provided student snack bags valued at about $3,000; Common Ground West donated uniforms and school supplies valued at about $2,500; and a campus food pantry received milk and eggs valued at $166.67. Dorsey also announced the next Red Zone Food Pantry distribution will take place Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Pike Freshman Center.

The recognitions at the meeting were largely ceremonial and informational; no formal board action was required for the donations or awards announced. The district said it is grateful to donors for supporting students and staff.

The board moved on to its business agenda items following the spotlight presentations.
