Advisory commission hears updates on street dance, trade association and a private parking-lot lease offer

Members discussed several operational items affecting the business district, including a large summer event, trade-association reorganization, and an offer from a private property owner to lease parking.

Organizers said the street dance is scheduled for June 20, with the band and generator booked and a title sponsor in place; volunteers are needed for setup and cleanup and organizers expect vendors to participate. Commissioners asked about volunteer coordination and contacts; members were directed to follow up with Joe Wrath and Fran (volunteer coordinator).

Sarah reported that the Old Webster Trade Association has reorganized with new leadership, filled chairs for major events like Oktoberfest and Holiday Open House, and moved to an event-based participation fee model rather than an across-the-board dues structure. She said the trade appreciates the commission’s allocated funds.

In new business, a property owner at the corner of Plant and East Lockwood offered part of a roughly 42-space lot for district employee parking, indicating about 25–30 spots might be available and mentioning a figure in the neighborhood of $15,000 per year. Commissioners raised questions about whether the lot is commonly owned with nearby businesses (notably Dwy’s), how it is currently used, and whether it could be closed for private tenant use when not leased. Scott agreed to gather ownership and pricing details and report back.
