Later in the meeting, Kathleen O'Rouke presented details about the DAV Chapter 17 'DAV walk' and invited council participation and sponsorship. Commander Steve Bremer of DAV Chapter 17 (Hammond) described the chapter’s outreach and veteran assistance work, including a May 3 veterans information seminar aimed at helping veterans access VA benefits.
Councilor motioned to sponsor the DAV walk with a $500 donation — the same level as the prior year — and the council approved the sponsorship 5‑0. Councilors thanked organizers and encouraged public participation in the event.
