Plan commission approves facade and final site for Holiday Express at 125 S. Superior Drive

The Crown Point Plan Commission on April 27 approved final site development for Holiday Express at 125 South Superior Drive after the petitioner returned with revised facade materials and brick samples.

Petitioner Am Shaw, representing Prime Point Investment, told the commission the exterior revisions addressed the only outstanding item from the prior hearing. “We made some changes to the building materials, hoping to get approval on that,” Shaw said, showing brick and stone samples to the board. Staff confirmed the packet reflected the updates the commission had requested previously.

Commissioners pushed the petitioner to reduce or eliminate the remaining metal panels and to standardize colors. One commissioner said the large metal feature on the building remained “a big” concern and asked for masonry or higher‑quality paneling near the primary facade. Josh from planning noted that the facade and landscape details — including a limestone band and proposed stone improvements — were the items staff had been tracking.

The board also asked that the monument sign be consistent with prior streetscape choices and requested that the petitioner add a bike rack to the final plat. “Let’s make sure that’s on the plat when you come back for further readings,” a commissioner said during the discussion.

After discussion the commission moved, seconded and approved petition PC26‑10 by roll call. The approval covers the materials shown to the commission and the items recorded in the planning staff recommendations; the vote followed the petitioner’s commitment that the brick would be laid by bricklayers and that the remaining facade concerns were resolved.

The commission closed the item and moved on to new business.
