Mayor outlines Uptown utility undergrounding project; work will run through fall with temporary impacts

The mayor described a major Uptown infrastructure project to place utilities underground and said work is expected to run through fall. "This is where we're going to be putting utilities underground as opposed to overhead," he said, noting the schedule will include utility relocation, infrastructure upgrades and temporary sidewalk and streetscape impacts in the Uptown area while businesses and driveways remain open.
City staff advised that crews will coordinate access for residents and businesses and that any concerns should be directed to Engineering & Public Works at 740-593-7636. The mayor said the city will provide ongoing updates and hold press events this summer to share additional utility-work information and timelines.
Speakers also warned of related street closures tied to other construction projects: Steuart Street will be closed for about three weeks near the Patton College of Education for construction of a new Patton performance space, and Dair Lane has active utility work installing poles and power lines. The mayor said the city will post more detailed schedules through public channels as work progresses.
