Council recognizes International Jazz Day with Jazz Boston performance

The City Council opened part of its April 29 session with a ceremonial recognition of International Jazz Day. Councilors Culpeper and Louijeune presented a resolution honoring April 30, 2026 and invited Ken Field, president of Jazz Boston, and musician Fabiola Mendez to the dais.
Field said Jazz Boston represents thousands of area musicians, venues and audiences and described the day as a celebration of jazz’s cultural and historical significance; Mendez performed an original piece on the cuatro and described the instrument’s Puerto Rican roots.
The council adopted the resolution recognizing International Jazz Day and invited residents to attend related performances and education events.
