Upbeat survey shows high teacher engagement in Clark County; participation jumps to 96 percent

An Upbeat consultant presented district staff engagement results showing strong participation and upward trends, which district leaders described as evidence that recent retention and culture efforts are making progress.

Dr. Ginger Featherstone, who leads Upbeat’s coaching for the district, said Clark County has run three survey cycles since spring 2024 and achieved 96 percent participation in the most recent round. The district’s aggregate engagement score is roughly 81, and the presentation highlighted particularly strong results on teacher sense of purpose (97 percent positive) and belonging (92 percent positive).

Featherstone told the board the survey platform is paired with leadership coaching and data-driven action planning: principals receive heat maps and can filter results by teacher cohort or grade level, and Upbeat provides coaching to translate survey findings into school-level goals. She said research correlates improvements in adult engagement with gains in student achievement and teacher retention.

The presentation also pointed to areas for continued attention: work-life balance and public recognition scored lower than other categories, and principals were encouraged to use the platform’s heat maps and filters to target interventions. Board members thanked district staff and Upbeat for the data and for the district’s high participation rate.

"What gets measured is what gets done," Dr. Featherstone said during her remarks to the board, and she urged the district to use the data to set action plans and measure results over time.
