The Lafourche Parish Land & Facilities Management Committee on April 29 approved three-year fee-waiver requests from two local youth sports programs to use district gymnasiums and fields, contingent on required insurance and deposits.
The committee approved a request from the Bayou Bengals to waive usage fees for the Tibido High School baseball field for three years; the team will remain responsible for a $300 damage deposit and custodial fees and must provide the required insurance paperwork before use. Mr. Arsenal, representing the nonprofit Bayou Bengals, described the volunteer-run team and said coaches are unpaid and the group hopes to begin weekly summer practices pending paperwork.
Committee members separately approved a three-year fee waiver for Tibido Biddy Basketball to use Tibido Middle School and CM Washington Elementary gymnasiums. A representative told the committee the program serves between 400 and 450 local children and runs roughly 250–260 games per year; the group said it has an established working relationship with school administrators.
Both motions were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Committee members emphasized the approvals were contingent on submitting required insurance and custodial arrangements before facility use begins.
