Garden City, Idaho — The Garden City Council approved acceptance of an Idaho Department of Environmental Quality State Revolving Fund grant on April 27 that will fund a new domestic production well at the city operations center on 38th Street.
Director Smith told council the project is eligible for a special SRF program that will cover the well and related costs; staff said the city has already drilled a test well (paid for by urban renewal) and is seeking reimbursement. “What we’re expected to get is about $2.197 million for this project,” Director Smith said. The grant, if accepted, will fund a large production well that the city expects to use for domestic supply and to boost fire‑flow capacity.
The public hearing required for the SRF program was opened and closed with no public testimony. Council voted unanimously to accept the grant; Carver Herbert, Jorgensson, Paige and Rasmmanson recorded yes votes. Staff said urban renewal financed the test well and the city will seek reimbursement under the grant.
What happens next: staff will complete grant acceptance paperwork and move forward with procurement and project planning. Council members thanked public‑works staff for securing the award and noted the grant’s significance for water reliability and fire protection.
