Mayor Kevin Zabel announced on April 28 that Oakdale will hold a ribbon-cutting and public tours for the city's new public works facility at 3200 Granada Avenue North on Saturday, May 2, with a 10:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting and tours every 30 minutes through 1 p.m.
The mayor said the facility was largely funded by local-option sales-tax revenue and noted a land donation from 3M. "For many years now, we have known that our current public works campus was bursting at the seams," Zabel said, thanking city staff and voters who supported the project.
As part of a separate construction phase, the city will begin renovations and expansion of the police department and a remodel of City Hall in June; the project timeline is estimated at about 18 months. During construction, the entire police department, including police lobby services, will relocate to Fire Station 2 at 6633 15th Street North, and in-person City Hall services (utility payments, permits) will move to the new public works facility. The city has posted relocation dates and details on oakdalemn.gov and is placing signage at City Hall to direct residents during the transition.
Mayor Zabel characterized the April 28 meeting as the last council session held in the current chambers before the temporary moves and expressed gratitude to staff and community partners.
