The Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution on Dec. 15 honoring the life and legacy of Reverend Doctor J.R. Manley, who died Dec. 11, board members said.
Joel (speaker 17) introduced the resolution and highlighted Manley’s community leadership, his role in school integration and the fact that he served as the first African American school board member for the district. Several board members and community leaders who served with Manley spoke about his decades of ministry and civic engagement.
The board approved the resolution by voice vote and asked staff to deliver a copy to Manley’s family and church community.
