Rising Sun swears in Officer Joseph N. Lombardi; officials highlight events and redevelopment

The Town of Rising Sun swore in Joseph N. Lombardi as its newest police officer during the April 24 meeting.

Chief Peterson introduced Lombardi, recounted his six months of training at the Carol County police academy and praised his decision to join the local department. "He will be a strong asset to the police department," the chief said. Lombardi repeated the oath of office and was congratulated by board members.

Officials used the meeting to highlight community events and local projects. Mayor Marian said the Little League opening-day parade had gone well and thanked Rising Sun Middle School students for Earth Day service projects. The mayor also announced a town celebration parade on June 27 for the nation's 250th anniversary, noting a $5 entry fee to support community events and advising that emergency services and nonprofit entrants will be accommodated at no charge.

Commissioner Dalling outlined a street-paving schedule for the week and asked residents to move vehicles off affected streets. Commissioner Pearson reported a state police car show with local participation and thanked planning and zoning for approving Mavis Tire, noting the town has previously attracted national businesses including Tractor Supply. Pearson also said banners are up for a mixed-use redevelopment at 16 East Main and that a housing/community-development grant supported the project; demolition is expected before the bid process begins.

Chief Peterson also noted Rising Sun's comparatively low crime rate and thanked officers and public-works staff for managing operations with a small team.
