Community to vote April 29–May 13 on new Wetzel County school name, mascot and colors

The district's naming and branding committee presented three shortlisted options for the new school: (1) Wetzel County High School with Black Bears and a black/indigo/gray palette; (2) Wetzel County (or consolidated) High School 'Wolves' with teal/indigo tones; and (3) Ridge View (Pioneers) with green/gold palettes. Committee members said logos shown were samples and that the final graphic treatments could be refined by the district’s design staff.
Staff explained the voting plan: students in grades 4–12 will vote at school; the public may vote once via social platforms (Facebook, Instagram), the county website and QR codes placed in school offices. The online/public voting window runs April 29 through May 13; board policy assigns the final naming authority to the board, which will receive and consider the results at the May 26 meeting. Voting will record percentages from student and public tallies so the board can see both breakdowns when making the final motion.
