Board approves 2026–27 school calendar and continues non-traditional instruction policy
Summary
After a public hearing on two calendar options, the Webster County Board of Education approved the 2026–27 school calendar (teacher start Aug. 12; students Aug. 19; last instruction May 27) and unanimously renewed the district's non-traditional instruction (NTI) days policy.
During a public hearing on the 2026–27 school calendar, staff described two options developed by a calendar committee and shared survey feedback favoring a shorter Easter break option (53% prefer the short break, 47% prefer a week-long spring break). Key dates in the adopted calendar include teacher return Aug. 12, student start Aug. 19, first-semester end Jan. 5 and last instructional day May 27; teachers’ prep day is May 28.
The board then moved to approve the recommended calendar (motion moved by Mr. Castello; seconded by Mrs. Nice) and the motion carried unanimously. Members also approved continuation of the district's non-traditional instruction days (remote learning on cancellation days) in a separate motion, again passed unanimously.
Superintendent staff noted the district must meet statutory requirements for 180 instructional days within 48 weeks and submit the approved calendar to the state.
