The Farmers Branch Historical Park board introduced Maria Mentor as the board’s new deputy director and reviewed staffing and operational plans for Venue 1842 at its March 26, 2026 meeting. Chair members said Mentor will oversee the park and arts-and-culture oversight previously split among several staff.
The board heard that an initial request for proposal for on-site vendors drew no responses and staff will repackage the solicitation and reissue it in coming weeks. Until a vendor or new contract is secured, staff said they plan to maintain current operations and include necessary funding in the coming fiscal-year budget to avoid service gaps.
Staff described a near-term plan to hire an administrative position and a full-time maintenance employee so the park has day-to-day on-site coverage; events staff would be based at city hall and deployed to the park for events. The chair said these staffing changes aim to improve daily operations and customer-facing services at the park.
Board members asked whether the budget includes funds for reconstruction of the log cabin area. Staff replied that capital funding has not been identified and that the budget process remains in an early stage; they advised members that advocacy to the city council or district representative is the appropriate route to get the project on the council’s radar.
“The intent is to keep things operating similarly for the next fiscal year while we pursue staffing and vendor options,” the chair said when introducing the operational update and Maria Mentor.
Next steps: staff will reissue the vendor RFP, pursue the admin hire and return to the board with budget details; members asked staff to provide council-contact options so the board can press for log cabin capital consideration.
