Board approves civil engineering contract amendment covering four bond projects

The Southgate Community School District board approved April 28 a contract amendment to continue civil engineering and consulting services in support of bond- and sinking-fund projects.
Gary K, a district staff presenter, said the amendment covers four change orders — Davidson Middle School athletic renovations, Allen Elementary athletic field improvements, Grogan Elementary parking-lot renovations and shelters, and Grogan Elementary parking-lot renovations — and that ‘‘the total additional fee for these change orders is $233,900.’’ He said funding for the services is accounted for within approved bond and sinking-fund budgets and recommended approval to maintain continuity as projects move into design and construction.
Board members asked follow-up questions about the ‘‘not to exceed’’ hourly or not-to-exceed figures included in vendor proposals and about the cadence of future change orders; staff said they typically bundle and evaluate change orders about once a year as projects enter design. A board member asked about a separate classroom/structural project (Rogan Classroom 101); staff said that work is being handled by the district's architectural/structural team and that geotechnical recommendations will be discussed at an upcoming bond meeting.
Dr. Pomponio moved to approve the contract amendment not to exceed $233,900; the motion was supported and the board voted to approve the item.
