Martinez Unified board approves salary bump, construction contracts and work order

The Martinez Unified School District board took a series of mostly routine but financially significant votes at its April 27 meeting.
The board approved a 2% salary increase for Martinez adult education teachers, retroactive to July 1, 2025. District staff said the adult education program will pay the raise and that it will not affect the district general fund.
On construction and facilities items, the board adopted Resolution 2026-25, approving a piggyback agreement with FieldTurf USA Inc. for the Merlo Park Elementary TK playground project; staff said that purchase will be funded by bond (Measure O) dollars.
The board also adopted Resolution 2026-26, a piggyback agreement with All County Flooring for carpet and tile replacement in Building J at Alhambra High School, with a 'not to exceed' price cited in the meeting as $116,175.23 and procurement through the Omnia cooperative.
Separately, the board approved a Cummings Group professional services work order for Alhambra High School Building F replacement and related modifications, authorizing up to $345,750 in construction management costs; staff said the overall project budget for the work is approximately $28.8 million and that Measure O funds will support the program.
Each of these items moved after brief staff presentations and passed with motions and recorded votes on the consent or action calendars. The board also approved the consent calendar (as amended) and agreed to bring several board-policy items back for further review.
Speakers on these agenda items included Andy Cannon, who presented the piggyback and contractor agreements and explained procurement choices and budget sources, and Interim Superintendent Janelle Ayat, who introduced the adult education salary item. The board did not debate the items at length; motions were seconded and carried by voice vote.
The board meeting packet will contain the procurement documents and resolution language for public review; the board indicated the Merlo Park turf procurement and the Alhambra High construction work will proceed under the terms discussed.
