Parks staff reports rising reservations, maintenance work and summer events

Parks staff presented a high-level update to the board covering usage metrics, recent maintenance and a calendar of programs and events.

Staff reported fiscal-year-to-date reservation figures: 2,399 pickleball reservations, 578 pavilion reservations, 65 civic center reservations and 49 beach-volleyball reservations; staff also noted high turnout for seasonal programs such as the egg hunt and father–daughter dance.

Maintenance and capital work: staff described recent and planned projects including a new Central Winds Park entry sign, landscaping and erosion control behind pickleball courts, repainting of pavilions, amphitheater renovation ahead of summer events, and completion of dog-park sod with reopening plans and a new on-site trainer. Staff said playground surfacing parts are on order and restroom dispenser upgrades are being installed across parks.

Board follow-up requests and facility questions: board members asked staff to check on tennis-court service lines, the possibility of installing a separating net between pickleball and tennis courts, and recent irrigation/water conditions. Staff said they would investigate and return with updates. Staff also confirmed rental fees for Central Winds Park follow the existing fee schedule (weekday rates $15–$20 per hour for residents, with higher weekend rates).

Programs and events: staff highlighted upcoming events including Food Truck Thursday at Trotwood Park, a large Sizzplash Barbecue event with dozens of vendors, CYO community youth outreach and Camp Sunshine (June 1–July 31), and the city’s Celebration of Freedom on July 4 with fireworks scheduled for 9 p.m.

The board moved next to a second round of public input; no attendees spoke and the chair adjourned the meeting.
