Planning commission approves subdivision and conveyance of Parcel A for pump-station PFAS upgrades

The Mount Airy Planning Commission on April 7 approved subdividing Parcel A from the Mount Airy Apartments property and authorized the planning-chair to sign the subdivision plat so the town can acquire the parcel and expand pump station No. 2 as part of PFAS‑treatment upgrades.
John Breeding, planning staff, said the subdivision was requested by the engineering department to provide the real estate needed for the town’s PFAS treatment infrastructure. "This parcel is parcel A and again, it will be expanding the water treatment plant of number two," Breeding said.
Barney (town engineer) said the parcel is one of two remaining pieces staff must acquire for a five-project PFAS program (four station upgrades plus a mobile-home-park tie-in). The town is under contract to purchase the parcel and aimed to close in July; staff said the subdivision and conveyance will be recorded in coordination with closing and property‑owner signatures as required.
The commission voted to approve the subdivision and to authorize the planning chair to sign the plat on the town’s behalf once acquisition steps were complete.
