Pickleball reopening at Demuth delayed to July 1 due to equipment and electrical supply delays

The commission received an update on the Demuth Park pickleball expansion and operational plans on April 27, including an updated reopening target of July 1.
Ad hoc committee members reported that concrete slabs and light towers are in place but a delayed electrical switchgear — a national supply issue noted by staff — pushed the restoration of full operations to July 1. The committee said the contract with the current operator runs through mid-June and staff are negotiating an extension to cover the delay. Committee members also discussed reusing netting and posts at the refurbished facility and working with consultants on signage that will include a code-of-conduct and court-level designations for beginner, intermediate and advanced players.
Staff said they hope to launch a reservation platform described in the record as "Wreck technology," a San Francisco–based electronic court-reservation service, timed to go live with the facility reopening; they also plan an ambassador program and a possible July grand-opening event with an additional September event for seasonal residents.
The committee noted a July 8 City Council meeting is the last before summer recess and expressed a desire to have the facility open before that date, but emphasized some elements remain contingent on equipment delivery and final electrical work.
