Committee advances Socket Telecom franchise, CPI warehouse plan and multiple infrastructure contracts to council

City Administrator Grant Litkin outlined the first item, a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a right-of-way agreement with Socket Telecom under the Telecommunications Municipal Infrastructure Maintenance Fee Act. "The Telecommunications Municipal Infrastructure Maintenance Fee Act, that's a mouthful. It grants telecommunication retailers access to public rightway," Litkin told the committee, and detailed the city’s permitting, inspection and fee process, plus existing providers including Spectrum, AT&T and Clearwave.
Socket representatives addressed questions from members about construction practices and technical operations. "We typically do not [share conduit]. It's a competitive market out there and you don't really want your competitor sharing the same conduit you do," said Matt Polio, director of business development for Socket.…
