PYLUSD reports drop in chronic absenteeism, outlines "Attend to Achieve" and transportation supports

Baldwin and other staff highlighted a district campaign titled "Attend to Achieve," site‑level attendance teams, an internally developed attendance dashboard and targeted staff interventions. Jason Pike was singled out by staff for work on site supports, reinforcers and home visits; district staff credited home visits with a high return on investment for re‑engaging families.
District staff said transportation barriers are addressed on a case‑by‑case basis for students with qualifying needs (foster youth and students experiencing homelessness), using bus passes or district transportation when necessary. Staff committed to provide a Friday update listing major strategies and evidence of impact for trustees to review.
Trustees requested that staff analyze school‑by‑school differences and report which school practices are producing stronger attendance gains so successful strategies can be replicated. Staff also agreed to include attendance monitoring in the planned district dashboard and to return with more detailed implementation timelines.
