The Assembly Finance Committee on April 29 heard a presentation from Mr. Barr on the Youth Activity Board's review of 27 grant proposals from community organizations serving youth in academic, arts and sports categories. The Youth Activity Board recommended a total distribution of $350,000 for FY27, which the presenters said is level with last year's allocation and is included in the manager's proposed budget.
Assembly members asked how the committee determined award amounts and specifically why one applicant was not funded. Mr. Barr and staff said typical factors in prior years included past funding history, number of children served and the amount requested, but presenters said the committee would follow up with more detailed explanations of scoring and reductions for that particular case.
No formal motion was made and the item will remain in committee for any further questions the Assembly wants to pose before any funding decision. Director Flick noted answers to three member questions are included in the packet (page 2).
