Council receives therapy‑dog donation for police and proclaims Larkin Hospital’s 10th anniversary

At the March 10 meeting Councilwoman Jayen Perez presented a Bernedoodle puppy donated to the Hialeah Police Department to serve as a therapy dog for officers, victims and the community. Police officials announced Officer Lucy Carman Lopez will serve as handler; Lopez is a 20‑year agency veteran and a member of the department’s peer‑support team.
Council members praised Perez’s donation as a morale and community‑relations initiative. "This therapy dog will bring comfort, calm and joy, not just to our officers, but to our community," police leadership said during the presentation. The dog was introduced to applause and council members joined the group for a photo.
Later in the meeting the council issued a proclamation recognizing the 10‑year anniversary of the Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs campus under the leadership of Dr. Jack Michelle for restoring services and establishing the campus as a teaching hospital that expanded clinical services and medical education in Hialeah.
