Indian Mart owner Nav says local grocery fills community need

Nav, owner of Indian Mart, told the City of Fairfield during a public comment that he opened the shop to "bring something nice and local to the community." He said the store offers Indian snacks, imported goods and herbal products intended to serve local residents who lack nearby options.

Nav said Indian Mart stocks a mix of locally oriented and imported items, including "local snacks" and herbal powders such as neem powder and ashwagandha. He said many of those items are imported from India and that the store prioritizes freshness, organization and honesty with customers. "We try to listen to customers. I have a customer wish list. If there's something that we don't have, I try to get it for them," he said.

Nav framed the business as family-run: his parents help run the store, and he described the shop as "your own little baby" that requires personal care. He said customer feedback shows people appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and the personal touch: "We open everybody with a welcome arms," he said. Nav also told the audience the shop has changed and added products since opening.

The comment emphasized the role of small, family-owned businesses in local economic life. Nav contrasted local proprietors with large national companies, saying community businesses are run by people who "appreciate more" what they have started. He closed his remarks by repeating his name and adding, "the buck stops here."
