Auburn School Committee approves handbook updates, budget transfers and enters executive session

Officials approved a list of budget transfers dated April 29, 2026 as presented by the superintendent. Committee members indicated they were comfortable approving the transfers in the absence of one member (Mrs. Stanek) and completed the vote by voice.
The committee voted not to hold a meeting prior to the town meeting, citing that pre‑town‑meeting members had no questions about the budget during pre‑town meeting review. The superintendent reported more than 1,000 students have registered for bus transportation so far for next year (current registration fee $125 per child; $300 family cap) and reminded families that fees rise after May 1. Staff also reported more than 1,800 families have completed returning‑student registration; the district extended the deadline to May 8 to increase participation.
As the final action, the board voted to adjourn into executive session under MGL chapter 30A subsection 21A2 for preparation of negotiations with non‑union personnel and stated it would not return to open session.
