Superintendent Dr. Chamberlain praised Harrington’s focus on students and steady leadership, saying the superintendent would “be forever grateful for her insight, guidance, and sacrifice.” Committee members and school leaders presented gifts and recounted her work on curricular programs such as universal design for learning and restorative practices.
Senator Mall, who attended the meeting, read formal citations from the Massachusetts Senate and the Massachusetts House celebrating Harrington’s public service. The senator described Harrington’s record and presented copies of the citations signed by legislative leaders.
Harrington, speaking at the meeting, described being overwhelmed by the recognition. “I feel very loved,” she said, thanking staff, students and families for their support.
The committee also paused to honor the recent death of longtime second‑grade teacher Doreen Guitar, who began work in Auburn in 2001 and served on multiple teams and curricular committees. The meeting observed a moment of silence in Guitar’s memory.
The recognitions concluded before the committee moved on to routine business and votes later in the agenda.
