Deschutes County reappoints three BPAC members and opens recruitment for one at‑large vacancy

Deschutes County commissioners on April 29 agreed to reappoint three at-large members of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) who had requested an additional three-year term and to open recruitment for one at-large vacancy.
Senior planner and BPAC staff liaison Tanya Saltzman told the board that six of BPAC's 13 terms were expiring, of which four were at-large county-appointed seats; two city-appointed spots follow those cities' processes. "Of those four who are expiring, three have requested reappointment," Saltzman said, identifying the seats and noting one member (Megan Winshill) will be replaced via recruitment.
BPAC chair Diane Flowers described the committee's active role in regional projects and safety work and urged communication and outreach to broaden the applicant pool. Commissioners said they valued both continuity and opportunities for new voices, and staff recommended reappointing the three incumbents and recruiting to fill the single vacancy.
Board action: A motion to reappoint the three at-large members who requested reappointment and to initiate recruitment for one vacancy was moved, seconded, and approved; formal reappointments will be handled on a future consent agenda.
Context: BPAC meets monthly (first Thursday, noon–1:30 p.m.) in rotating locations (Bend, Sisters, Redmond) and supports a range of active-transportation and safety projects, including the larger regional active-transportation planning for a trail between Bend, Sisters and Redmond.
