Thurston County schedules June hearing on board-of-health composition ordinance

Dr. Jen Fry, director of Public Health & Social Services, asked the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners to set a public hearing for June 2, 2026, to consider an ordinance amending Thurston County Code section 2.07.010 on the composition of the county Board of Health.
Staff said the amendment would align county code with the referenced state statute (RCW 7.05.030 as cited in the meeting) by expanding tribal representation and establishing a youth advisory component. Fry said the board previously discussed an updated board-of-health configuration at the November 5, 2025 work session and that the change is intended to expand inclusion and improve public-health partnerships across Thurston County communities.
Commissioners asked whether the county should issue a press release about the change; staff and the chief communications manager were asked to coordinate outreach. The item was presented as a consent/agenda-setting item to be scheduled for a public hearing, with the clerk authorized to adjust date or time as needed.
The county will formalize hearing logistics and public-notice steps ahead of the June hearing.
