Several residents used the public-comment period to thank staff and students, and to press the board on two recurring concerns: district communications and school‑zone safety.
Jason McCord (1011 Cherokee Road) opened by praising the choraliers and then pressed the board to improve communications. He urged exploring whether the district should use some of the roughly $100,000 the district pays to BOCES for a part‑time shared employee to hire a district communications staffer: "Doesn't it make sense to at least explore if it's better to use a portion of that $100,000 in tax dollars to hire our own person who is here every day focused on improving communication?" McCord also asked why the district Facebook page remained inaccessible after a transfer of control and said recent events were not being shared with the community.
Parent and community member Janelle Murray reported that a recent community petition calling for a school zone near Glendale had "over like almost 400 signatures" and said parents had contacted state legislators and offered to help push the matter beyond DOT. Murray said parents are concerned about logistics at drop-off and pickup if bus routings change and urged the district to coordinate with state and local officials quickly rather than wait for slow state processes.
Superintendent Susan Schwartz and board members acknowledged both concerns. Administrators indicated they will continue to use ParentSquare and other channels for targeted messaging and said they are working with state contacts about the school-zone request. On social-media access, board members said Instagram was available as an interim channel and committed to post official notices when available.
In addition to these concerns, community speakers invited the board to upcoming student events, including Drama Dragons’ production of Shrek the Musical Kids (May 7–8) and the Tartan Friendship Festival (May 12).
