A staff presenter reported operating revenues for March of $3,156,000 and said the district recorded $664,000 in interest earnings tied to longer-term investments that matured. Operating expenditures for the month were reported as just under $7 million, with about 89% of operating fund expenditures going to salaries and benefits. The presenter said the self-funded insurance fund balance increased by $274,000 in March to roughly $1.7 million, compared with $652,000 at the same time last year.
The board approved the March financial statements by voice vote. The board also voted to approve a group of policy and regulation changes; staff said the updates are required by state statute or were rescinded because they are no longer appropriate. Board member Miss Neman asked why staff combined first and second readings, and staff replied there is no statutory requirement for separate readings and a technical delay had caused the group to be presented together.
The board was also informed that several curriculum changes will be presented for second reading and approval at the May 18 business meeting, including AP Business with Personal Finance, sixth- and seventh-grade wellness physical education, and English language learners courses for grades 9–12.
The meeting concluded with thanks to staff for managing an early dismissal following challenging weather; the board then adjourned.
