Parents and teachers urge clearer processes for student supports and stronger outreach about district finances

Two members of the Parkrose community used the meetings public-comment slot to press the district on services and communications.
Yuki Cat, a parent, submitted a statement describing repeated delays, redirected meetings and unclear processes after an October incident that delayed medication and supports for her child. "When a student requires medication to support their mental health, delays in implementation are not neutral," Cat wrote, asking for "improved communication, clearer processes, and accountability" so families can access urgent supports promptly.
Teacher and parent Zachary Melzer urged the board to run a sustained education campaign about school finances. Melzer, who said he has worked in the district for 11 years, called for regular, clear explanations to families about the districts unique funding challenges and suggested early preparation for a possible operational-levy effort in 2026. "Small and consistent changes in our communication plan presented in the continual education campaign for our families would have a powerful impact," Melzer wrote, offering to help organize outreach.
Superintendent and staff committed to assign a staff member to respond to the parent comment, to talk with Melzer about communication plans and to develop advocacy materials for the board.
