Committee liaisons reported on recent Conservancy Lands and Water Resources discussions and staff outlined a slate of May agenda items, including a joint meeting on May 11 with the Water Resources Management Commission.
Alder Mary (liaison) said the Conservancy Lands meeting discussed a trailhead concept off Century Avenue and asked whether power lines in the area might be buried as part of utility work. Don reported that MSA presented options for controlling stormwater flows from a gravel pond and described a selected trenching method with some phosphorus-removal tradeoffs.
Staff said the May 11 joint meeting will cover pedestrian and bicycle improvement costs and how the stormwater utility should contribute, an overview by the executive director of the Metropolitan Sewer District (Eric Dundee), a summary of the Old Creek Road and Pheasant Branch Road traffic-calming public information meeting, a water-utility staff retention plan, Safe Streets for All grant discussion, the five-year streets plan and updates to the TIA guidelines.
Members suggested agenda additions: a postmortem on the Allen/Century intersection project and a standing joint-item to review pedestrian-vehicle-bicycle collisions on a 12-month rolling basis. Staff agreed to invite an MG&E representative to brief the committee on costs and processes for burying power lines, noting the city has limited control without funding.
