Committee flags large solicitor bill, declines broad tech appropriation and refers finance packet to council

Golf Manor Village’s Finance Committee spent part of its meeting on two short items: a request to amend appropriations to buy devices for council members and concern about a larger-than-expected solicitor invoice.
A member had asked whether the committee should amend appropriations so the village could purchase tablets or laptops for council members. Committee members said administration already has authority to provide devices as needed and cited a previous instance in which a council member received a computer. The committee did not vote to change appropriations.
Committee members also reviewed a solicitor invoice the presenter said appeared larger than anticipated. The presenter read the invoice total aloud as “22,79” (transcript) and said the amount was far higher than expected; he urged the committee to be mindful of solicitor travel and billed time and suggested more phone or video conferences to reduce costs. The committee asked staff to circulate upcoming bills and to provide more detail on solicitor time and billing patterns so members can assess whether changes are needed.
Near the meeting’s close, Mr. Fisher moved to refer the finance packet to the full council for review; the motion was seconded and approved.
