Huron council grants ODOT consent for winter maintenance and approves consent resolution

The Huron City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 11-2026 on Feb. 24, giving the city’s consent for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to remove snow and ice and to use snow- and ice-control materials on state highways inside the city corporate limits and authorizing the city to enter into accompanying maintenance agreements.
"Basically what this does is it lets them come in the city limits and carry out services for us," Mr. Hamilton said, describing the resolution as the annual consent legislation. He said staff will bring detailed maintenance agreements, including maps that define responsibilities, back to council later for formal approval.
Mr. Hamilton added that the agreements will be revisited after US 6 connectivity-corridor work is finished because road structures—such as new roundabouts—may change maintenance responsibilities. Council voted yes on the adoption by roll call.
Separately during the manager’s report, staff said ODOT had agreed in principle to a 90/10 split on an additional cost of about $44,000–$45,000 for added lighting at the Jim Campbell/high-street crossing; final approval and the specific maintenance agreements were described as forthcoming.
The council’s consent resolution is procedural authorizing language required before entering into the map-specific maintenance and snow-removal agreements that govern state-highway work inside city limits.
