Commissioners approve permit and storage project, ratify TIRZ action and nominate representatives to boards

At its April 27 meeting, the Young County Commissioners Court handled a series of administrative and consent items.
The court approved a proposal to install chain‑link fencing in the Graham Annex attic to create secured storage rooms for county offices. Judy (project lead) said the grant will fund construction and the plan divides roughly 400 linear square feet of attic into nine secured rooms (sizes uneven; roughly 40 sq. ft. average per room). Judy said the grant funds have been secured and no county tax dollars will be used. Commissioners approved the fencing proposal unanimously.
The court ratified an executed agreement to participate in Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 2 with the city (the packet contained an executed agreement) and approved nominations for county representation on external boards. The court unanimously nominated the county judge to a developer board seat (TUS/TUR No. 1) per the agreement and also nominated a replacement for Mike Cypes on the Young Central Appraisal District Board; the appraisal district nomination passed with one abstention recorded.
The court accepted GovDeals auction results for two sheriff’s office vehicles (a 2017 Tahoe and a 2011 Chevrolet mini bus) and approved the reported winning bids. Commissioners also approved a request from Encore Electric to renew a permit to cross a county road to upgrade existing overhead utility facilities along Andrews and Garvey Ranch Road.
Miss Roberts provided an update on the FY2025 audit: auditors issued a partial invoice and requested outstanding items (county minutes, fund information) before finalization; staff expect to present the finalized audit in May.
On emergency management, staff reported severe weather in neighboring Wise County with tornado touchdowns and fatalities; commissioners discussed burn restrictions but took no county‑wide restriction action at the meeting and then adjourned.
