Sweetwater 1 trustees approve recommended administrative rehires after heated public comment on transparency and records requests

"I would like to ask that agenda item number 10, administrative contracts, go to a roll call vote," said Charerelle O'Drriscoll, who identified herself as a parent (public comment). O'Drriscoll also said she did not think assistant superintendent Nicole Bolton should be renewed.
Another public commenter, Cole Sepy, a parent and former board member, told trustees the district had lost 79 certified employees to resignation or nonrenewal since Dr. Libby became superintendent and urged the board to demand accountability. "Those are not just vacancies on a spreadsheet. They are people and families and professionals," Sepy said.
Other commenters raised concerns about the district's handling of public-records requests and apparent discrepancies between public statements and records. One attendee questioned the timing of an outreach email to other districts and said records produced under public-records law did not match the timeline reported at an earlier meeting.
Board members who spoke before the vote said they had spent recent weeks reviewing the superintendent’s recommendation, meeting with the superintendent and examining district data. Trustee Mr. Gardner thanked staff and colleagues for the "deep dive" and described the process as instructive; Mr. Garner and other trustees emphasized reliance on available metrics and committed to quarterly follow-up and further oversight.
The motion to approve the recommended certified administrative staff for rehire was moved by Miss Wood, seconded by Miss Schumacher, and passed by voice vote. Chair Wright announced, "Motion passes." Trustees did not record a roll-call tally on the public record during the meeting.
Procedural context and next steps: trustees noted a plan for ongoing conversations and monitoring of recalibration, internal processes and communications. The board also said it would continue to review budget and staffing changes as the preliminary budget evolves; no specific personnel actions beyond the rehire approvals were announced at the meeting.
