Opponents and some commissioners cautioned about liability risks and asked whether the arrangement could affect the county’s medical-director oversight or insurance coverage. Several asked staff to confirm whether the practice aligns with the medical director’s scope and whether coverage is in place; insurance representatives were cited as having indicated coverage for firefighters in some circumstances.
The board moved the item forward for action pending confirmation from the medical director (Dr. Nelson) and the county’s insurers; staff were tasked to return with a final recommendation and any needed training or procedural safeguards.
Next steps: County staff will verify medical‑director agreement, insurance coverage and training requirements and return the policy for formal adoption.
