Kendall County bans certain skyrockets and missiles over holiday period
Summary
To reduce fire risk amid elevated burn conditions, Kendall County approved an order prohibiting certain types of skyrockets and missile-style fireworks from Dec. 20, 2025 through Jan. 1, 2026; the order carries class C misdemeanor penalties and passed 5–0.
Kendall County Commissioners on Dec. 9 approved Order O-20251209-1 banning specific uncontrolled fireworks (described as skyrockets with sticks and missile-style devices) in unincorporated parts of the county for the Dec. 20, 2025–Jan. 1, 2026 holiday period under Texas Local Government Code §352.051.
Fire marshal Brady Constantine advised the court that the local burn index had increased (he cited a burn index of roughly 633) and that afternoon relative humidity was forecast to fall into the 29–30% range, increasing fire danger. Because these kinds of fireworks are less controllable, Constantine recommended the temporary prohibition. County staff noted the statute allows the county to act before the sale season begins and that violations are a class C misdemeanor enforceable by fire departments and licensed peace officers. The county also plans to notify fireworks vendors directly.
The judge moved the order; it was seconded and adopted unanimously (5–0). During the discussion commissioners confirmed agricultural exemptions for planting and harvesting burns, which remain allowed with notification to the county and coordination with the fire department.
