Library staff outline 'Unearth a Story' summer reading program, job-help services

Library staff told the Dorchester County Council that this year’s summer reading theme is “Unearth a Story” and said the program has been a longstanding success in the community. The presenter reported that more than 1,100 people signed up last year for the general program and said staff devote substantial time and funding to create learning and enrichment experiences for children and families.
Library staff also said they have seen an increase in patrons seeking job assistance and have provided one-on-one help with computers, Wi‑Fi access and resume support. The presenter cautioned that staff are helping patrons avoid scams tied to artificial-intelligence tools when job seekers are asked for personal information.
The library invited the council to the trustees reception and commencement on May 20 in the Dorchester Administration Building boardroom and announced the summer reading kickoff on June 6 (reception at 12 p.m., ceremony at 2 p.m.). A library vice president also spoke briefly to reiterate appreciation for the council’s support.
