Fairfield County Council approved several formal items at its May 11 meeting, including a rezoning ordinance on third reading and adoption of the county strategic plan.
Dr. Roberts read Ordinance 853 for a rezoning request to change tax map number 186-01-14-008-000 (1053 U.S. Highway 21 South, Ridgeway) from RD1 (rural residential) to B2 (general business) to allow a retail store or venue. The planning commission had approved the request; council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on third and final reading. The clerk recorded the vote as 6-0 in favor.
Dr. Roberts also read Resolution 2026-5 to appoint and commission a code enforcement officer pursuant to South Carolina Code 4-9-145. Council moved and seconded the resolution; the transcript records the motion and second but does not include a roll-call tally in the public record excerpt.
Mister Carpenter presented the finalized county strategic plan (updated with council feedback) and asked for adoption. The motion to adopt was seconded and recorded as approved with the record showing 6-0.
No board-and-commission appointments or minutes required action at the meeting. The council took additional ceremonial and operational actions (proclamations and staff introductions) but the principal formal actions for the evening were the rezoning approval, the resolution to appoint a code enforcement officer, and adoption of the strategic plan.
