Commissioners forward multiple budget amendments, approve fireworks add-on and procurement awards

At the budget committee, Director Markin presented two general-fund amendments the committee voted to send to full court: a $56,680 appropriation of reserved courtroom-security fees for security purposes, and a $23,114 amendment tied to the Tennessee Highway (THSO) grant (including $20,000 in grant revenue and $3,114 from fund balance to cover overtime/benefit costs). The committee also approved sending a $166,000 highway-public-works amendment to the full commission to cover major-equipment repairs, $30,000 for higher diesel costs and construction items.
The solid-waste sanitation fund saw a $75,000 internal reallocation for Gumspring Mountain Road convenience-center site development (engineering and services); staff characterized this as reclassifying budget categories rather than new funds.
In a separate vote, the budget committee approved an additional $6,000 allocation for a red-white-and-blue grand finale at the county’s 250th-anniversary fireworks show; the committee’s tally was reported as four yays and one nay.
The purchasing committee approved two school-related procurements: an RFQ recommendation for energy-audit services (CMTA scored highest at 87.67%) and a low bid award for career-academy metal wall panels to Roth Services Corporation at $24,976. Steering Committee B approved sending a sheriff’s request to surplus a 2017 Ford Explorer with an older license-plate-recognition (LPR) unit to the county commission for final approval.
Several school and federal grant reallocations (Perkins, Title I, IDEA, Title IV, McKinney-Vento) and a drug-control fund amendment were reviewed and will proceed through the school board and then to the county commission where required.
