Maumee council clears Monster Truck Wars permit amid dust and zoning questions

Maumee City Council approved a permit for Monster Truck Wars at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on June 20 after staff said the event operator provided a safety plan intended to limit dust.

Council members discussed whether the full-day event would have multiple shows and whether the outdoor track would require trenching or other ground disturbances. Staff and councilors said the operator indicated they wet the dirt to control dust, and a council member who had attended similar events said indoor settings had no dirt issues while outdoor events typically wet surfaces to limit airborne dust.

Members noted the fairgrounds’ R2 (residential) zoning and suggested staff and the municipal planning commission discuss longer-term zoning and special-event handling at the site because questions about noise and dust arise regularly. Council approved the permit on roll call.
