The superintendent told the board the district is piloting a formative assessment called Renaissance (referred to in the packet as Renaissance/DNA) as a possible replacement for the current Amira screening because it provides more descriptive information on student growth.
Why it matters: Early literacy gains at the preschool level shape kindergarten readiness and future reading outcomes. The superintendent said kindergarten readiness skills have progressed across assessed areas and that the district's continuous-quality-improvement target was met.
The report also covered a range of school activities and operational notes: teacher and nurse appreciation week; TIS and TES field days and water days (dates in early May); TIS talent shows and awards assemblies on May 18; the last day of school scheduled for May 20 with normal dismissal times; and graduation practice set for 9 a.m. on May 20 at the football field. The superintendent noted that 73 seniors are on track to graduate and that 100% of CTE students are on a CTE pathway, with dual-credit students passing at current rates.
Special education staff reported that alternative assessments were completed on May 1 and that SpEd is completing pending evaluations and IEPs to meet documentation timelines. Leadership said eight interviews have been conducted for ancillary services and offers extended to strengthen the continuum of SpEd services.
The superintendent also described efforts to modernize administrative systems: the district is implementing Frontline software for absence management, onboarding and recruitment, and working to convert parent accounts in PowerSchool from student-held accounts to parent-held accounts to enable electronic registration and better account permissions.
The board did not take formal action on these program updates; they were provided for information and planning. The district emphasized continuing work to wrap up the school year and use remaining Title I funds for next-year supplies.
