At its April meeting the Bristol Township School District Board celebrated students' achievements in music and the arts and heard a presentation from Mill Creek Elementary School.
Superintendent remarks opened the meeting with an emphasis on the arts and the board recognized multiple "Students of the Month" and musicians of the month from several schools. Keystone student Samantha Foutman Chen was named Vocal Musician of the Month; Brookwood’s Stephen S.J. Fortunac was honored as Instrumental Musician of the Month; Ben Franklin Middle School recognized Juliana Horn for instrumental performance; and an Armstrong Middle School student listed in the record as "Katik Katikka Mudham Adavano" received the art award. Teachers and presenters cited students' ensemble participation, leadership, festival selections and other extracurricular involvement.
The board and music staff highlighted district participation in BCMEA/PMEA festivals and other honors: dozens of students from Truman, Armstrong, Ben Franklin, Franklin and Mill Creek were named and invited forward for certificates and photographs. Joe Marlow, identified in the record as a music teacher at Armstrong and later speaking about the district foundation, participated in recognizing students.
Principal Dawn Martizi and several fifth-grade student leaders presented "the Mill Creek experience," describing favorite activities and school traditions. Student remarks included Antonia Diaz saying she enjoys "the Halloween parade" and Maisy Young describing the "glow party" and assemblies; Principal Martizi called it a privilege to lead Mill Creek and introduced a short video about the school community.
Committee reports that followed included curriculum and special-education updates: the district plans to renew Mystery Science for K–5, adopt Savvas D’Nealian handwriting materials for grades 3–5 to meet a new Pennsylvania requirement to teach cursive, and continue use of Benchmark Universal Screener tools for reading and math. The district also reported it had been awarded a PCCD BOOST grant to support after-school programming; details were provided by Ms. Festa.
