Millcreek staff outline MTSS plans after data‑summit attendance

District staff told the Millcreek Township School District Board on April 27 that lessons from a recent PTE Data Summit will shape how the district uses data to support student learning.
"Our theme from the conference was turning data into action because every student deserves a hero," said Abby Nelson, interventionist at JS Wilson, summarizing takeaways including MTSS (multi‑tiered system of supports) and the need to use data to guide next steps rather than punish. "Data is only valuable when it leads to action," she said.
Diane McWills, science department chair at MIHS, said the summit emphasized alignment of curriculum with state standards and the importance of culture—engaging families, staff and students—to make data‑driven improvements work. Nelson described concrete next steps: sharing platform resources, using NWA MAP and PSSAs data to identify instructional gaps, and coordinating intervention tiers (whole‑class instruction, small groups, one‑on‑one support).
Nelson and McWills said they will work with colleagues to create parent communications explaining tests and results and to refine departmental instructional planning. The board heard no formal motion; staff presented these items as next steps for implementation.
