Cool Spring Downtown District CEO Ashanti Bennett presented the quarterly report on May 4, updating council on economic‑vitality metrics, marketing reach and signature events. Q3 (winter) activity included three new business openings and recruitment initiatives for storefronts and public art.
Bennett previewed the 2026 Juneteenth Jubilee scheduled for Friday, June 19, at Festival Park: organizers announced headlining vocalist Kirby and said they had raised roughly $15,000 in additional private sponsorships plus $25,000 of in‑kind support alongside a $110,000 city contract allocation for the event. Bennett said the district is coordinating a Cumberland County‑wide schedule of Juneteenth activities to avoid vendor and calendar conflicts.
Cool Spring also reported work on a website redesign, rotating public art in downtown alleys, quarterly small‑business meetings and a grant strategy that has pursued nearly $500,000 in outside funding for downtown projects. Council took receipt of the report by consensus and thanked Cool Spring for the update.
