MSD Mount Vernon board adopts 2026–27 calendar, confirms staffing changes and authorizes bids notices

The Metropolitan School District of Mt. Vernon Board of School Trustees met April 6, 2026, at Mt. Vernon Senior High School and approved a package of routine business including payments, personnel actions and next-year planning.
Board President Greg Oeth called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.; the Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the board observed a moment of silence for Pam O'Risky, a district teacher who served 44 years. The board approved the minutes of March 16 and March 26, 2026, and authorized payroll checks 408195 through 408570, voucher checks 147529 through 147626, and electronic transfers ET003404 through ET003415. Brian Williams moved the motion, and Brittney Butler seconded it.
The board adopted the 2026–27 school year calendar and tentatively adopted proposed calendars for 2027–28 and 2028–29. Kendra Bisesi moved the calendar motion; Mark Isaac seconded it. The adopted and tentative calendars were attached to the minutes.
Several personnel actions were recorded. The board accepted resignations from extracurricular and instructional staff including Jillian Bailey (assistant coach, boys' and girls' swimming, high school, 1/2 stipend), Alicia Gower (cheerleader sponsor, junior high, 1/3 stipend), Erinn Jankowski (aquatics director, junior high; head coach boys' and girls' swimming, high school), Erin McBride (STEM teacher, WE), and Rachel Wheaton (assistant coach, boys' and girls' swimming, high school, 1/4 stipend). Mark Isaac moved to accept the resignations; Brittney Butler seconded.
The board confirmed several hires: Kristen Dutkiewicz as Director of Special Services; Staci Reese as junior high principal; Brad Higginson as high school physical education teacher and assistant athletic director; and Leah Parsons as a bus driver. The confirmations were moved by Brian Williams and seconded by Kendra Bisesi.
The board accepted the intent to retire from Scott LaMar, a WE teacher, effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year; LaMar was recorded as having 19 years of service. That motion was moved by Mark Isaac and seconded by Brittney Butler.
Two nonpaid leave requests were approved: Kailei Hunsinger, high school nurse, for April 1, 2026, through the end of the 2025–26 school year; and Savannah Snodgrass, a teacher at Marrs, from April 15 through May 21, 2026. Kendra Bisesi moved the leave approvals; Brian Williams seconded.
The board adopted a resolution permitting listed personnel to attend educational meetings (resolution attached to the minutes). It also granted permission for the FFA annual banquet on May 17, 2026, and for the wrestling team to travel and train in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 20–28, 2026.
On procurement and program planning, the board authorized advertising for cafeteria supply bids for the 2026–27 school year on April 15 and April 22, 2026, and authorized advertising on those same dates for proposals for a childcare program for 2026–27. The board received April cafeteria menus as informational material and set future regular meetings for April 23, May 4 and May 18, 2026, all at Mt. Vernon Senior High School.
Immediately after the public meeting the board convened in executive session under Indiana Code IC 5-14-1.5-6.1 Sections (6) and (9) to discuss personnel matters and evaluations; the minutes state the board did not discuss matters beyond those publicly noticed. The minutes were prepared by Superintendent Stephanie Stewart and the meeting was adjourned.
