At its March 16, 2026 meeting, the Board of School Trustees of the Metropolitan School District of Mount Vernon approved routine business and several personnel and administrative items.
The board approved the March 2, 2026 meeting minutes, authorized payroll checks 407795 through 408194, voucher checks 147445 through 147528, and accepted the February 2026 financial statement (motion by Brian Williams; second by Brittney Butler). The board accepted resignations from Megan Hargett (cheerleader sponsor, high school), Chad Mitchell (assistant football coach, junior high), Chelsea Timmons (food services, high school), and Seth Wolf (assistant girls' soccer coach, high school). The board confirmed the employment of Xavier Angel as assistant boys' soccer coach (high school) and Oluwatobi Ojo as head boys' soccer coach (high school).
The board approved a nonpaid leave of absence for Kirn Ripple, teacher assistant at West, effective March 19, 2026 through the end of the 2025–26 school year. Trustees also adopted a resolution permitting listed personnel to attend an educational meeting; that resolution is attached to the minutes.
For the 2026–27 school year, the board designated a total student capacity of 240 students per grade level (including resident and nonresident transfers) and set August 13, 2026 as the deadline for requests to transfer into the school corporation. The board approved test plot agreements with Archer Daniels Midland, Inc. and Ports of Indiana; those leases are attached to the minutes. Trustees also appointed Loren Evans, Don Julian, Beth McFadin Higgins, Bob Stemple and Mike Wheaton to the Mt. Vernon of Posey County Multi‑School Building Corporation for three‑year terms expiring March 15, 2029.
Information provided to the board included a Self‑Insurance Fund report, a fuel adjustment chart, kindergarten roundup materials, and school lunch donations from the Elks Lodge and Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church. The minutes state future board meetings are scheduled for April 6 and April 23, 2026 at 5:30 p.m., and May 4, 2026 at 5:30 p.m., all at Mt. Vernon Senior High School. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned; minutes were prepared by Superintendent Stephanie Stewart.
